children's playground in the Cotswold, North Carolina has been fenced off while
local residents argue whether it is too brightly colored. This playground,
being one of the better-known parks in the area, was a major attraction to the
neighborhood until some residents decided they disliked the color scheme. They
say it may distract ongoing drives, and could lead to accidents.

Homes offered to repaint the swings and other equipment darker colors, but the
residents weren't only upset about the color. They also thought the size could
be a distraction, and wanted the entire park to be smaller as well.

Lloyd, a resident near the park, said her four-year-old son and two-year-old
daughter are desperate to play on the equipment. She thinks the complains are
ridiculous because the only people complaining are the people without kids. She
went on to tell reporters that it was because of that park that she bought her
450,000-dollar house. She loved the idea of her kids being able to go right
outside and play with the equipment. Now, she wishes the park had never been there
at all.
I think it is absurd that these
children are being punished for a couple of angry neighbors who don't want a
park! They need to go back to when they were kids and think about how magical a
park was for them. Everybody has been to a park before, and everybody knows
that they are a miraculous to kids of all
ages. The park does not have neon colors so its not like it is going to blind
drives. It’s almost like these residents just want to suck the life out of the
neighborhood. They need to stop being so selfish and realize that there is more
to life then your own happiness.
I think the neighbors here are being pretty reasonable and responsible. They are just trying to prevent fatal accidents near this park. These kids, in my opinion, need to grow up. Look around, we don't live in a neon world! The sooner kids learn that the world does not revolve around their neon colors, the more prepared they are to put on their big boy pants and step out into the real world! I applaud these neighbors for speaking out against this injustice, and saving their neighborhood from the onslaught of accidents that were sure to happen.
ReplyDeleteIf the park was to be repainted, why not let it stay? Children love parks and have a blast going to them. When I was young, I remember going to the park almost everyday with my mom. I had a blast going down the slides, getting pushed on the swings and trying to make sand castles. I agree that the park should not be brightly colored to prevent accidents, but if it was repainted, why won't residents allow it? It just makes me sad that children are getting part of their childhood taken away.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, it is stupid of them to block the playground and not let the children play. I think that if the color and playground size has not caused accidents yet why would the neighbors try to cause issues? I think there are far more distractions to drivers than a playground. And regarding the size, why would the neighbors not bring up this issue before it was built. Now it is already there for the kids and it is already built. If the color does become a huge issue and distraction then it could easily be repainted. The problem is becoming a bigger problem than it needs to be.
