Friday,
April 12, a young man by the name of Eric Brown was
sentenced to seven years in prison after stealing President Obama's
teleprompter. Mr. Brown agreed the seven-year sentence without much argument at
all! Why? The answer is in his criminal record! While Brown may have only
stolen the Presidents Teleprompter on April 12, he was about to be accused of
fourteen similar thefts he had already committed! Turns out police had
been looking for Brown way before this incident and are happy to finally bring
him to justice. The Terms of the trial were simple, if he agreed to the seven-year
sentence, the other fourteen charges would be dropped! However,
he could still face charges in Stafford County, which did not join
Chesterfield, Hanover and Henrico counties (the other counties he was accused
of criminal activity in) in the agreement. In these counties, Brown is accused
of three dozen crimes including burglary, drug possession, identity fraud
and grand theft auto stretching back more than three decades.
I think it is ridiculous that Brown
was able to steal government property so easily! Sure he was caught this time,
but if the government is just leaving their equipment out in the open, of
course someone is going to try to steal it! If the government can't even prevent
robbers from stealing their stuff, how are we supposed to feel safe in our own
homes? Especially if it is taking our police three decades to find people like
Brown! This criminal was on the loose for far to long! He had stolen plenty of
other things and committed plenty of other crimes before they were unable to
find him. Then he stole from the government, they were able to find him in a
matter of days! If it takes crime against the government to bring people to
justice, the people of the USA are going to see a rapidly growing crime rate.
