Austin Whaley never
thought that his seemingly harmless prank could lead to so much trouble. The
eighteen year old from Covington, Kentucky and some of his friends went to the
local Bingo Hall last Monday, hoping for a good time. Trying to make the hall a
little livelier, Austin falsely yelled out "bingo” shortly after the game
had started. The crowd was clearly not amused as depressed moans sounded
throughout the crowd. Once the caller had found out Austin did not have a
winning card, he went on and resumed calling other numbers.
Then, two or three numbers
later, Austin once again falsely called out "bingo". This process
continued a few more times until someone in the crowd was angry enough to call
the police. He was quickly charged with second-degree
disorderly conduct and is not allowed to say "Bingo" again for the
next six months. Police say if they catch him playing or saying Bingo
again during this time frame, he will be sentenced to ninety days in jail and a
two hundred and fifty dollar fine. In addition to the court's jurisdiction, he
is banned from the hall for a year and will most likely never be able to play
there again.
I think it is ridiculous for anybody to think
they can disturb a game of Bingo like this! This man was clearly trying to be
funny in front of his friends and cost others the great experience of a good
Bingo game. It is unfortunate that we have to deal with people like this in today’s
society because all they do is disrupt the peace of others. He needs to learn
to follow God's golden rule and treat others the way he wants to be treated!
